50th show of Padatik’s “Jolbalika” next month
The 50th show of Padatik Natya Sangsad's much acclaimed production “Jolbalika” will be staged in October at Zahir Raihan Hall, Sutrapur, Old Dhaka, according to Selim S.H. Chowdhury, chief executive and leader of Padatik Natya Shangshad.
Chowdhury said, “'Jolbalika' was staged last month at Experimental Hall, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. At the last show, the audience expressed how much they appreciate the production. All the tickets were sold out an hour before the show and many were disappointed, as they did not get tickets. Now we are thinking about selling the tickets at flat rate.”
A celebration has been planned revolving around the 50th show of the play. The event will feature musical soiree, mime performance and discussion. “Jolbalika” has been staged many times at home and abroad.
“Our new production will be staged by January next year,” added Chowdhury.
“Jolbalika”, written by Masum Reza and directed by Shamsul Alam Bokul, focuses on rural Bangladesh. The play depicts the struggles of working class people. The play also lays emphasis on the gender issue, where a male child is given priority over a female.
