One killed, six hurt in clash
One person was killed and another six were injured in a bloody clash over a disputed land at Dahkula village in Sadar upazila Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Nasir Uddin, 30, son of Mohammad Ali of the village.
Police said there was a longstanding dispute over a piece of land between Monjel Mondol and Mukul Mondol of the village.
The clash ensued after Dulal of Mulluk group locked in an altercation with Nasir of Monjel group at night. At a stage Dulal attacked Nasir with a bamboo stick. Within moments the rival groups engaged in bloody fighting, leaving six people injured.
Of the injured, Nasir, Dulal, Lal, Ayed Ali, Mahabbat and Akbar were admitted to the Kushtia General Hospital where Nasir succumbed to his injuries.
Meanwhile, police recovered the body of a farmer from a paddy field at Madhupur village in Sadar upazila Tuesday evening.
The deceased was identified as Umed Ali, 60, son of late Neher Ali of the village. Family sources said Umed Ali went missing a few days ago.
Locals found the body in the paddy field in the evening and informed the police.
Later, police recovered the body that bore stab injury marks and sent it to Kushtia General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Police suspected that Umed might have been killed by his rivals following a land dispute.
