Stand against conspirators
Home Minister Advocate Sahara Khatun said war crimes trial would be hampered if conspirators against the initiative are not defeated.
“We shall have to stand united against conspirators to end the long-expected trial of war criminals, who committed crimes against humanity,” she said while addressing a law and order meeting of the district yesterday.
The home minister instructed authorities concerned to continue the ongoing drive against extortionists and arms smugglers of the region.
She also said home ministry would consider the demand of raising a battalion of the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) to curb crimes in the region.
She also emphasised need for setting up fire stations in all upazilas and strengthening police and paramilitary BDR forces.
Dipangkar Talukder said sometimes the area becomes volatile due to man-made crisis. A vested quarter is trying to create unrest in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) flouting the process of reconciliation, he added.
Chaired by Deputy Commissioner of Rangamati Sarendra Nath Chakraborty, the meeting was addressed by State Minister for CHT Affairs Dipangkar Talukder, Rangamati District Council Chairman Nikhil Kumar Chakma, Police Super Masudul Hassan and representatives from Rab and army.
