Two women killed, another commits 'suicide': Man to die for killing wife
Two women have been murdered while another allegedly committed suicide in Satkhira, Kusthia and Sylhet.
Besides, a court sentenced a man to death for killing his wife for dowry in Netrakona.
In Satkhira, a housewife was slaughtered allegedly by her husband at village Sreekalash in Assassuni upazila on Friday allegedly for dowry, reports our correspondent.
Police arrested Sirajul Islam, the husband of victim Salma Khatun, 24, soon after the incident.
Quoting locals police said Salma, daughter of Abdul Hamid Sardar of village Kadakati in Assassuni upazila was married to Sirajul Islam, son of Abdul Gani Sardar of village Sreekalash about 4 years ago.
At the time of wedding Sirajul took Tk. 20,000 as dowry from Salma's parents, police said. But Sirajul used to beat Salma on and often for more dowry.
Unable to bear it anymore, Salma filed a case with the women and children repression prevention court against Sirajul a year ago, court sources said.
However, after a peaceful settlement, Sirajul Islam brought his wife back home from her parent's house in April. Recently he again started to torture her for dowry, the victim's family sources said.
On August 6 afternoon, Sirajul took Salma to a lonely place near a pond and slaughtered her with sharp weapons.
Police later recovered the body and sent it to Satkhira hospital for postmortem.
In Kushtia, criminals slaughtered a divorcee at Jhoudia village in Daulatpur upazila early Monday.
The dead was identified as Sahara Khatun, 32, daughter of late Azimuddin of the village, reports our correspondent.
Police said Sahara, mother of a three-year-old boy, was sleeping at her parent's house.
The criminals entered the room breaking open the window at about 1:00 am and slaughtered Sahara Khatun with sharp weapon.
In Sylhet, a mother of two allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at Kalaiyra village in Bianibazar upazila on Thursday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Shefali Begum, 29, wife of expatriate Parvez Ahmed of the village.
Locals said Shefali committed suicide following a quarrel with her in-laws at about 1.30pm.
Meanwhile, Netrakona Additional District and Sessions Judge Ekramul Haque Chowdhury on Wednesday sentenced one person to death for killing wife.
Convict Abul Kalam, 35, is a resident of village Digjan under Sadar upazila, reports our correspondent.
According to prosecution, on April 25 night in 2002, Kalam strangulated his wife Ambia Khatun, 25, for dowry.
Hossen Ali, eldest brother of Ambia of village Mulgaw under Kalmakanda upazila filed a murder case with Sadar police station accusing three people including Abul Kalam.
The Judge after examining the witnesses and evidence found Kalam guilty and sentenced him to death. Two other accused, Salam and Helal, were acquitted of charges.
