10 interns at Dinajpur medical college sued
Relative of a patient, who died at Dinajpur Medical College Hospital on Friday, sued ten interns of the hospital on Monday night on charges of neglect of duties and assault on the family members of the deceased at the hospital.
The accused are Dr Saiful Islam, Dr Shifa, Dr Iftekhar Ahmed Anny, Dr Rajib Malaker, Dr Ony, Dr Shishir, Dr Apurba, Dr Junayed, Dr Rajib and Dr Raihan.
Md Abdur Razzak, brother-in-law of the patient, Faruk Hossain, filed the case with Dinajpur Sadar Police station. Police said. None of the accused was arrested as of filing of this report at 6:00pm yesterday.
Faruk Hossain, 24, son Md Abdul Zabbar of Bazniya village under Bochaganj upazila of Dinajpur district, was admitted to the hospital on Thursday as he took poison. He died Friday afternoon.
After the death, Faruk' family held the on-duty doctors and interns responsible for his death and had an altercation with them. At one stage, the family members scuffled with the doctors and interns, hospital sources said.
Family members of the deceased alleged that the interns assaulted them and confined to a room for about three hours. They further alleged that the interns also threatened to burn the body of Faruk.
Dr Iftekhar Hossain Chowdhury President of DJMCH Intern Doctors' Association alleged that relatives of the patient attacked the doctors and interns at the Medicine Ward, leaving two doctors injured.
Contacted, Dr Shamsul Alam, Director of Dinajpur Medical College Hospital, said, he has already informed lawmaker Iqbalur Rahim, also the president of DJMCH Managing Committee, about the latest situation.
