New MPO list almost finalised
The government has almost finalised a list of non-government education institutions for giving them monthly pay order (MPO) facilities.
Around 1,000 private schools, colleges, technical institutions and madrasas have been listed for the government's pay roll after a break of six years, the education ministry sources told The Daily Star last night.
The ministry officials were working for finalising the list till dead of night.
Earlier Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid told The Daily Star that the list will be posted at its website shortly after finalisation. “We are strictly following the rules in giving the facilities," he said.
The teachers and employees of these institutions will get cent percent basic salaries and other benefits from the government after the necessary process is completed. The government has allocated Tk 112 crore for the MPO for this fiscal year.
The MPO listing remained suspended since 2004 for alleged corruption and irregularities in the process. By this time, over 7,500 institutions had applied for the MPO.
Now 26,340 educational institutions are MPO listed in Bangladesh.
