Gambari arrives in Cambodia today for talks on Myanmar crisis
UN envoy Ibrahim Gambari will arrive in Cambodia today for talks on Myanmar's political crisis, but is unlikely to meet its premier Thein Sein, who is also visiting, an official said.
Gambari, the UN secretary general's special representative to Myanmar, is on a regional trip to assess the position of the military-run nation's neighbours following the bloody suppression of protests there.
"The sole purpose of (Gambari's) meetings will be the Myanmar situation ... some of his meetings are still unconfirmed," UN spokeswoman Hua Jiang told AFP when asked if the envoy would see Thein Sein.
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) has come under increasing pressure to push Myanmar towards democracy since its rulers cracked down on anti-government protests in September.
Troops killed at least 15 people and arrested about 3,000, drawing international condemnation.
