Laila’s work features in World Wide Art Books
International Contemporary Masters, volume III has been recently published. An annual art journal of WWAB (World Wide Art Book), this volume presents 233 artists from 54 countries. The cultural diversities and difference of backgrounds are evident from the works.
It is a matter of great pride that, a painting of Laila Sharmeen, a Bangladeshi artist, has been featured in this significant art anthology. She is the only Bangladeshi painter who has been sponsored by WWAB. The book contains nearly 400 works from all over the world. Despina Tunberg, an internationally noted painter is the curator of the book.
Laila Sharmeen did her Masters in Printmaking from the Institute of Fine Arts (now Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka). She has participated in 50 international group exhibitions and 11 solo exhibitions. She is an earnest painter -- her favourite mediums are etching, watercolour, and acrylic. Her installations have been mostly done in video format. Her mixed media works are rich, abstract images of beauty and truth. Her reposeful works have a touch of transparency and harmony. Spontaneous use of colours express the artist's mood and contemplative world.
Laila's masterpiece in the anthology titled “Datta Dayadivam Damyata: Shantih Shantih Shantih” was done in mixed media with various shades of white, grey, olive, black, chocolate, crimson and sapphire. She has always tried to explore nature, rhythm, music and poetry through her works.
