Tk 3,000 fee fixed for MRP
The fee for emergency machine-readable passport (MRP) has been fixed at Tk 6,000 while Tk 3,000 will be charged for a normal MRP, according to a home ministry notification.
The fees for the MRP to be issued in foreign missions of the country will be different. Fee for an emergency MRP is $200 while $100 for normal ones in abroad, says the notification.
The 84-page new passport will be valid for five years.
The department of immigration and passport (DIP) has decided to issue MRP from its 10 regional offices, as the rest 24 regional offices are yet to be ready. People can collect the forms free of cost from the 10 offices. It will also be available in the DIP website: www.dip.gov.bd.
Dhaka, Manikganj, Munshiganj, Narsingdi, Gazipur and Narayanganj districts are under Dhaka regional office; Mymensingh, Tangail, Jamalpur, Sherpur, Netrakona and Kishoreganj districts are under Mymensingh regional office; Chittagong, Rangamati, Khagrachhari, Bandarban and Cox's Bazar are under Chittagong regional office; Comilla, Chandpur, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni and Brahmanbaria districts are under Comilla regional office while Sylhet, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar and Habiganj districts are under the Sylhet regional passport office.
Rajshahi regional office will cover Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Naogaon, Natore, Sirajganj, Pabna, Joypurhat and Bogra districts, Barisal regional office will be for Barisal, Patuakhali, Barguna, Bhola, Pirojpur and Jhalakathi districts while Rangpur, Dinajpur, Panchagarh, Thakurgaon, Nilphamari, Kurigram, Lalmonirhat and Gaibandha districts are under Rangpur regional office.
A Jessore-based regional office will cover Jessore, Jhenidah, Kushtia, Meherpur, Chuadanga, Magura, Narail, Khulna, Bagerhat and Satkhira districts. Gopalganj regional passport office will be for Gopalganj, Madaripur, Faridpur, Shariatpur and Rajbari districts.
Bangladesh must switch to MRP from April 1 as per a deadline set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). It, however, keeps a provision under which emergency manual passport can be issued till March 31, 2011 with one-year validity from the date of issue.
The present manual passport can also be renewed in the country and the foreign missions till March 31, 2011, says the home ministry's notification.
Fee for an emergency hand-written passport has been fixed at Tk 1000 while the amount will be Tk 500 for emergency renewal or endorsement of a passport. For duplicate emergency (hand-written) passport the government will charge Tk 1000.
In abroad, fee for an emergency manual passport is fixed at $30 while emergency renewal or endorsement of a passport will charge $15. Duplicate emergency (hand-written) passport will cost $30.
Workers staying in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) like Jordan, Cyprus, Mauritius, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Brunei, Malaysia and Indonesia as well as students studying in abroad will get emergency MRP at $100 while normal at $30.
For emergency hand-written passport, they will have to pay $30, for emergency renewal or endorsement of manual passport $4 and for duplicate emergency hand-written passport $30, the notification mentions.
Those who have applied for hand-written passport will have to apply again for MRP if they are not provided the manual passport before Wednesday.
