National Street Theatre Festival in Mymensingh
The three-day Jatiya Pathnatya Utshab (National Street Theatre Festival), Dhaka division chapter, ended recently at the Shaheed Minar premises. Organised by Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation (BGTF) and assisted by Destiny Group, the festival was inaugurated by Liaquat Ali Lucky, president of BGTF, on February 10.
Mymensingh Theatre Association provided all-out supports to make the programme a success.
Ten theatre troupes from Dhaka division staged their productions at the festival.
Bahurupi Natya Sangstha staged "Daye-daitwa" (written by Malay Bhowmik) and Bidrohi Natya Goshthi staged "Kookpankhi" (written by Azhar Hablu). Chhayanat Shahitya and Sangskritik Dal staged "Khyapa Paglar Pechal" (written by SM Solaiman) on the inaugural day of the festival.
On the second day, Ensemble Theatre staged "Prekkhapot" (written by Sajjad Siddique) and Natyagan Natya Paribar staged poet Farid Ahmed Dulal's drama "Manush". Mukhosh Natya Sangstha staged "Roktakto Barnomala" (written by Lakshman Chandra Dhar).
Sanchalak Natya Charcha Kendra from Munshiganj staged "Bhengcha Dotcom" (written by Alamgir Mahmud), Jhilik Natya Sangstha staged Mannan Hira's play "Bou" and Compass Natya Sampradaya staged the Muneir Chowdhury classic "Kabor" on the concluding day.
Such events become a meeting place for theatre activists and enthusiasts, expressed some young individuals who thronged the venue. Festivals like this should be held at the grassroots level, they said.
