Nahid gets death threat
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid received death threat from an anonymous person who asked him not to formulate the National Education Policy.
"Refrain from formulating 'erroneous' National Education Policy or get ready for death," says a letter sent to the minister.
"Otherwise August 15 or 21 would take place once again in the country," the letter reads.
Senior Public Relations Officer of the ministry Subodh Chandra Dhali told reporters that the letter was sent on November 18 by post.
The letter also reads: no law enforcement agencies in the world could protect the people known as the enemies of Islam for formulating an atheistic education policy.
The letter ends stating only 'aam janata' (general masses).
Later in a press briefing, the minister said he is not worried about the threat and there is no scope of stepping back from formulating the policy.
A general diary was lodged with the Shahbagh Police Station in this connection, said officer in-charge Rezaul Karim.
Nahid earlier came under severe criticism by some pro-Islamic organisations for drafting the policy and posting it on the website of the education ministry.
