UPDF man killed after abduction
An activist of United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) was abducted and killed by criminals in Rajasthali upazila of the district in the early hours yesterday.
He was identified as Lanka Moni Tangchangya, 35, son of Chok Kala Tangchangya of Bogachhari village under Ghilachhari union in Rajasthali upazila.
UPDF in a press release accused Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) members of the abduction and killing.
It alleged that a group of armed PCJSS activists attacked Mithuching Marma's house at Khagrachharipara around 12:00midnight and kidnapped Lanka Moni at gunpoint. They then took him away into the deep forest and killed him.
UPDF opposes CHT Peace Accord while PCJSS supports it.
Shantideb Chakma, a leader of UPDF at Rangamati, condemned the incident and urged the law enforcers to trace the killers and give exemplary punishment to them.
Md Abdullah, officer-in-charge of Rajasthali police, told The Daily Star that they were yet to find Lanka Moni's body or the kidnappers.
