Outlaw killed in 'shootout'
An outlaw was killed in a 'shootout' between his cohorts and police in Chatmohor upazila in Pabna yesterday.
The dead was identified as Jamal Uddin, 38, a regional leader of Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP-Janajuddha).
Acting on a tip-off, Chatmohor police raided Kutibari Battala where the outlaws were holding a meeting around 3:00am.
Sensing their presence, the Janajuddha cadres opened fire forcing the law enforcers to retaliate.
Jamal was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot. His accomplices, however, managed to flee.
One gun and eight bullets were recovered from there.
Jamal, hailed from Sripur village under Atgharia upazila, was wanted in a number of cases, including murder, police said.
In another drive, police arrested Hanif and Shahjahan, operatives of PBCP-Lal Pataka, from Chatmohor yesterday.
