Moeen files petition for dismissal
Former army chief Moeen U Ahmed filed a petition with a Dhaka court yesterday asking for dismissal of the defamation case against him.
Former state minister for energy Iqbal Hassan Mahmood Tuku filed the Tk 100-crore defamation suit on July 12 accusing the former general of making derogatory remarks that damaged his (Tuku) reputation.
Moeen's counsel, advocate Humayun Kabir, filed the petition with the Third Joint District Judge's Court, Dhaka.
Judge SM Saiful Islam fixed the hearing on September 13.
On March 27, 2007 Gen Moeen said at a tea party at the National Parade Square that corrupt politicians had siphoned at least Tk 20,000 crore from the energy sector during the tenure of four-party government, reads the complaint.
The party was held in the honour of freedom fighters.
