Section 154 imposed to avert chaos
Gulshan police yesterday imposed section 154 of the penal code on a 'disputed building' at Banani as there had been a feud between the authorities of Banani Society and State Bank of India over setting up of a visa application centre.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gulshan Police Station Kamal Uddin told The Daily Star that he imposed the section from 6:00am to avert any untoward incident between both the feuding parties.
The imposition of the section would continue until the court gives a decision in this connection, he added.
Banani Society sources said they have been opposing the relocation of the centre at House No. 98, Road No. 7, Block-F at Banani as it would hamper normal life in the area.
“Banani will turn into a chaotic place if the visa application centre is established in the residential area,” said a member of the society.
He also said the residents of Banani formed a number of human chains and made repeated appeals to State Bank of India, an agent of Indian High Commission, requesting it not to set up the centre there.
In the cautionary notice served on both the parties, the OC urged both the parties to maintain peace and discipline in the area.
