Newborn goes missing from DMCH
An infant went missing around 27 hours after his being born at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) early today when his mother was asleep.
Kawsar Hossain, a resident of Johuri Mohalla at Mohammadpur, said his wife Runa Begum, 27, gave birth to twin boys at the labour ward of the hospital around 5:00am on Wednesday.
Three to four hours later, the woman along with the newborns was shifted to the first floor of the hospital, he said.
On information, people thronged there to see the twin babies.
Meanwhile, an unknown woman aged around 45 developed a relationship with the parents and grandmother of the babies.
At one stage, the woman managed to flee the hospital with one of the babies around 8:00am today.
Talking to The Daily Star, Kawsar, a security guard of an apartment in Mohammadpur, said his child has gone missing due to poor mismanagement of the hospital and insincerity of its authorities.
Despite getting information instantly, the DMCH authorities did not take any immediate measures to recover the baby, he alleged.
The hospital authorities have filed a case and a general diary with the Shahbagh Police Station in this connection.
