For her unique rendering style Samina Chowdhury has attained huge popularity in Bangladesh. She has been singing since 1981 as a school student. Her debut playback song in the film Janmo Theke Jolchhi Mago took her to the limelight. Since then she has presented some evergreen playbacks such as Ekbar jodi keo bhalobashto and Amar buker moddhey khane. She has also released a few popular solo projects directed by the leading music composers of the country. She learnt music from her parent eminent singer Mahmudun Nabi.
Samina Chowdhury tells The Star Online that these days she is busy with a talent hunt project and working on her upcoming solos on modern songs and Rabindra Sangeet.
In terms of music arrangement her debut album on Tagore songs will be a different one from the typical albums presented by the traditional Tagore singers, claims Samina. Popular musician Bappa Majumdar is arranging theme-based music for her album. She will also release another modern song album directed by popular music director Prince Mahmud.
Samina Chowdhury levels the contemporary time as the revival of modern song, which for years has been going through bad days due to the commercial attitude of the singers and composers. She observes that popular songs in these days do not last for long because of weak lyrics. However, the singer is optimistic about the future of contemporary music since she sees some significant development.
As Samina Chowdhury has come to the music circuit through a talent hunt, she believes such programmes can always present new talents. Which is why she is doing a talent hunt titled Khude Gaan Raaj for Channel-i.
