Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday warned her party leaders not to join the opposition BNP men in speaking against the 1/11 changeover and just-retired army chief Gen Moeen U Ahmed.
At a cabinet meeting, she and her colleagues expressed resentment at some of the ruling party leaders making 'derogatory remarks' about Moeen and 1/11.
Hasina, also president of Awami League, said she would soon sit with the leaders in question and caution that the way they have lately been conducting themselves amounts to playing into the hands of the opposition.
LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Syed Ashraful Islam raised the issue.
Some cabinet members said a few AL leaders are speaking like BNP's Moudud Ahmed and Khandaker Delwar Hossain out of frustrations they maybe feeling for not getting a berth in the cabinet, said meeting sources.
Both Moudud and Delwar have been calling for trial of Moeen and others for bringing about 1/11.
The AL chief said her party men talking like that will only damage the government's morale, and this cannot be accepted, added the sources.
She suspects there is a conspiracy behind bashing the former army chief and the changes that came on January 11, 2007.
Some AL leaders might have reached an understanding with the BNP leaders Nahid is likely to introduce three more bills today, said officials at the Parliament Secretariat.
The education minister said the prime minister wants to be relieved of the chancelleries, and the president has consented to take over.

Its good to see that The Prime Minister understands the simple truth: She cannot on one hand question the legitimacy of the post-9/11 regime while accepting the benefits of the fair elections held under its auspices that would've been surely denied her by the original CTG under Prof. Yazuddin. By the way, the Finance Minister is to be congratulated for acknowledging this fact first among the ruling party members.

I think its a good advice from prime minister to her party leaders.

Quality of political leadership prevents making consensus politics in Bangladesh. Vibrant politics is healthy but confrontational politics is costly and deadly. On the issue of bringing General Moin and his buddies under the umbrella of justice system for their alleged role during the last caretaker government, there should not be any difference of opinion among AL and BNP. Sooner our leadership realizes it, the better for the country because on many national issues, we as a nation need to speak at one voice to our international partner if we want to prosper and remain free and sovereign nation.

I agree 100% with Hasina. The BNP have reason not to like Moeen U Ahmed, he stopped their staged election. But why are the AL mps jumping on the bandwagon? ill intention is the reason. BNP/Jamaat wolves in AL clothing.

Awami League is the sole beneficiary of 1/11. So why they should stand against the 1/11 changeover and just-retired army chief Gen Moeen U Ahmed?
Tuesday, June 23, 2009 10:20 AM GMT+06:00 (33 weeks ago)
The PM has given a perfect signal which should have been given some time ago. 1/11 was a historical necessity for the very existence of the nation.

We are proud that we voted you to be our Prime Minister. Thank you very much for taking such a good step on talking against the caretaker Govt. If we can stop all these dirty games we will definitely get a digital Bangladesh from you! Make an example and make us proud! Our best regards to you!

Deep down, every one of us knows why and how conflicts arise, through omission or commission. If you do not know how to handle the anger and violence in yourself, it is impossible to help someone else, even your own child. Non-violent action can be born only from non-violent living.

PM's word of caution demonstrates her qualitative leadership. Hope she will be able to maintain and overcome the advise of the psycho fans.

We do not agree with the political leaders' assessment that the last caretaker government has taken the country 20 years back. On the contrary, we believe that they have advanced the country 20 year ahead.

PM has done the right thing indeed. In my opinion I must state that those who were responsible for 1/11 should be brought into trial. In fact the responsible ones are raising the issue of the trial of ex army chief. This is nothing but an evil intention of pushing the government into an awkward situation. People of Bangladesh know very well about the background of 1/11. We haven't forgotten the drama which the 4 party qualition government tried their level best to stage with K. M. Hasan, M. A. Aziz and of course Iazuddin. I think formar president is the one who should be brought into trial for his acts. Moudud is considered as the most benefited person in the history of the politics of Bangladesh. It is like brought daylight that he has some colaborators in AL as well. AL should take active initiative to find them out and take action against them for the sake of AL, above all for the sake of Bangladesh.

This is a commendable move by PM Hasina, Some of her senior party men started talking rubbish about the past caretaker govt and the army chief. How do they forget that the foreign currency reserve etc. better situation they are enjoying today is because of that government. These criticizers are just power hungers. We do not want a mouth like Gupta any more in our country politics.
