AL men set fire to BNP office at Lalmonirhat

Activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League and Jubo League yesterday set fire to the BNP office at Lalmonirhat over assault of a BCL leader by Chhatra Dal activists.

They vandalised five shops, a counter of Bablu Paribahan and a restaurant owned by BNP leaders at Mission intersection.

Witnesses said several Chhatra Dal activists beat up Murad, district BCL secretary for religious affairs, at around 12:00noon over fishing in a leased water body at Namatari.

Activists of BCL and Jubo League allegedly led by BCL district unit president Khalid Babu and its former president Jahangir Alam vandalised the BNP office and set the furniture on fire on BDR road at around 7:00pm.

Fire fighters brought the fire under control after an hour.

They attacked the shops, bus counter and the restaurant.

BNP's Lalmonirhat municipality unit president Mosharraf Hossain told The Daily Star that BCL and Jubo League activists set fire to their office that they had left after holding a meeting.
