Border confce ends with accord to resolve issues

The four-day border conference of Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) and Indian Border Security Force (BSF) concluded here yesterday.

Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation between them for controlling trans-border crimes, conduct a joint survey on the disputed lands along Indo-Bangla borders in greater Sylhet-Meghalaya, Tripura and Assam region as soon as possible.

The BDR and BSF officials said the survey will be conducted to resolve the long standing disputes on the said borders of the two countries.

BDR sources said the officials also discussed trans-border problems like trafficking, arms smuggling, barbed wire fencing and border river disputes at the conference.

Moreover, Bangladesh side highlighted the issues including arrest, killing and abduction of innocent Bangladeshis by the BSF and the Indian tribal people, a BDR official said.

BDR Deputy Director Brigadier General M Obaidul Haque led a 13-member Bangladesh team while Inspector General of BSF Tripura, Mizoram and Cachhar frontiers SK Mishra led the Indian side.
