Contraband drugs worth Tk 20 lakh seized, 3 held

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) seized huge quantity of contraband drugs worth Tk 20 lakh in a raid at a pharmacy of Hazari Lane wholesale drugs market in the port city of Chittagong on Wednesday night.

During the drive conducted with the help of Chittagong Drug Administration, Rab also arrested Rana Biswas, 30, son of the pharmacy owner Tapan Biswas, Raju Das, 24, and Tipu Chowdhury.

Meanwhile, traders of around 400 shops at the wholesale market kept their shops closed yesterday protesting the raid and harassment on the staffs of the shop.

When contacted, Bangladesh Chemist and Druggist Association General Secretary Omar Ali said they did not call any strike, but general traders have kept their shops closed.
