2 Banbeis staff arrested on bribery charge

Police on Wednesday arrested two staff of Bangladesh Bureau of Educational Information and Statistics (Banbeis) on bribery charge in Shibchar upazila under Madaripur district.

The arrestees are Jamil Hossain and Sirajul Islam. They came from Dhaka to conduct survey on schools and Madrasas in the upazila.

Shibchar upazila secondary education office and police said Jamil and Sirajul surveyed 25 secondary schools and madrasas and took Tk 50,000 from the teachers of each of the institutions.

Chiefs of several educational institutions lodged complaints against the two with Shibchar secondary education officer who brought it to the notice of the UNO.

UNO Bipul Chandra Biswas handed the two over to the police after they confessed to their crimes.

Police produced the two in a Madaripur court that sent them to jail.
