Monday's Ramgarh Incident

Talks fail as ruling party men stick to their demand

The meeting between the administration and local leaders of the ruling party, arranged to settle Monday's unwanted incident between the staff of Ramgarh upazila complex office and local Jubo League men, has ended without any result.

At the meeting held at the conference room of Ramgarh upazila nirbahi officer's (UNO) office on Monday night, the ruling party leaders stuck to their demand for immediate removal of the UNO and the Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Ramgarh and transfer of all the staffs 'responsible' for the clash.

They also warned of launching a tougher movement against the two officials if their demand is not met.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salauddin led the five-member administration team while district Awami League Vice President Rono Bikrom Tripura led the five-member ruling party team.

Khagrachhari Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abdullah yesterday formed a one-member probe committee comprising Additional District Magistrate Mohammad Yasin to investigate Monday's incident.

Terming the incident as 'unexpected and against the discipline of state', DC Abdullah told the reporters, "I have already formed a probe committee and asked completion of investigation by three working days. I will take tough action if any government official and staff are found guilty. Legal action will also be taken if others are found responsible for the incident."

Ramgarh upazila Jubo League leaders and activists on Monday physically assaulted UNO Raihan Kaisar, AC (Land) Mohammad Abul Hasan and five other staffs following a trivial matter.

Two Jubo League leaders were also injured as upazila complex staff beat them up.
