8 injured as bus plunges into canal

At least eight people were injured as a bus plunged into a canal breaking the railing of a bridge on Chittagong-Khagrachhari road in Hathazari upazila last night.

Police said the Khagrachhari-bound bus carrying about 30 passengers from Chittagong skidded off the road and fell into the canal at Mirerkhil, about 20 kilometres off the port city around 8:30pm.

On information, police rushed to the spot and began a salvage operation with the help of locals and fire fighters, police said.

Officer-in-Charge of Hathazari Police Station Mohammad Ismail told The Daily Star that the bus was salvaged but they did not find any body inside it.

"We are yet to receive reports of any person going missing in the accident," the OC said.

The eight injured passengers were admitted to a local hospital, he added.
