Viqarunnisa student describes brutality

A student of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, who was sexually harassed by her teacher, made judicial statement before a Dhaka court Sunday.

Metropolitan Magistrate Shamima Parvin recorded the statement of the student after she appeared before the court and expressed willingness to give statement under the Special Act for Prevention of Women and Children Repression.

Porimol Joydhor, the sacked Bangla teacher of the school, earlier confessed to sexually assaulting the class-X female student of the school's Bashundhara branch.

He made the confessional statement before Metropolitan Magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnan at his chamber on July 11, said Investigation Officer Shahadat Hossain.

"He [Porimol] has confessed to violating the girl twice," Shahadat said adding that the accused, however, denied taking any picture of the girl.

After his statement was recorded, Porimol was sent to jail.

Porimol was arrested on July 6 from Keraniganj outside the capital on the allegation of violating the girl at his Badda coaching centre on May 28. The arrest came a day after the student's father filed a case against him with Badda Police Station.

On July 7, a Dhaka court placed him on remand for five days. Porimol made the confession on the fourth day.

As the accused does not have a lawyer, the Star correspondent could not get any of his versions.

The school authorities dismissed him on July 5 following protests of a large number of students and guardians against him. They also demanded his exemplary punishment.
