Stay on DU admission lifted for 4 weeks

The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday cleared the way for the University of Dhaka to hold 'Gha unit' admission test and continue admission procedure under 'Kha' unit as per the new rules.

Chamber Judge Md Muzammel Hossain of the Appellate Division on Wednesday stayed the HC order for four weeks.

The High Court (HC) on November 10 stayed operation of the new admission rules of the university for four months that barred madrasa students from six departments.

The departments are--Economics, English, Mass Communications and Journalism, International Relations, Women and Gender Studies, and Linguistics.

DU lawyer AFM Mesbahuddin told The Daily Star that the university could continue its admission process following the SC order.

The judge also directed the DU authority to file a regular leave-to-appeal petition with the SC against the HC order within four weeks.
