Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Matiur Rahman Nizami on Saturday said the majority people will not accept secularism as the state principle embodied in the 1972 constitution which the government wants to revive.
“If the government attempts to restore the ’72 constitution in the name of so-called secularism, majority of the people will launch a strong movement to resist it,” he said while addressing a meeting on the occasion of National Revolution and Solidarity Day at the National Press Club.
Nizami urged the people who believed in faith and Bangladeshi nationalism to stand against anti-Islamic activities initiated by the government.
Recalling the historical events of the country, the Jamaat chief said the sepoys and people through a peaceful revolution on November 7, 1975 took over power of the country and thus averted a big crisis.
