State Minister for Foreign Affairs Hasan Mahmud, who is now attending a UN conference in Geneva, Wednesday met with former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and President of Timor Leste and discussed possible ways to address the climate change challenges.
Kofi Annan's Foundation organised the two-day Global Humanitarian Forum 2009 on climate change challenges in Geneva, which concluded Wednesday, according to a message received here today.
During the meeting, the state minister sought Annan’s support in setting up a group of climatically vulnerable nations ahead of the Copenhagen Climate Conference in December 2009.
Annan mentioned that the Global Humanitarian Forum would support any initiative that would strengthen the voices of developing countries in climate change negotiations.
As a follow-up to this discussion, Annan has requested his colleague, Walter Fust, CEO of the Global Humanitarian Forum, to coordinate with the Bangladesh government and offer all possible assistance.
