With its one-point demand of immediate resignation of the vice chancellor, Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) today locked the main entrances of the administration and academic buildings of the Chittagong University (CU).
The BCL activists, student wing of the ruling Awami League, also kept the university registrar confined for three hours from 9:00am, reports our CU correspondent.
The academic activities of the university came to a halt after the BCL men took position on the campus early this morning.
Scheduled examinations for today have been postponed, while the classes were cancelled.
The university buses and two shuttle trains got stranded outside the main entrance as the activists of BCL did not allow those to enter the campus.
Additional contingent of police has been deployed on the campus to avert any untoward incidents.
Police said the BCL activists locked the VC's office room and main entrance of the university at about 6:00 in the morning, UNB adds.
Meanwhile, CU Proctor Jasim Uddin said they tried twice to sit with the striking students to settle the issue. “But the BCL men refused any discussion until the resignation of the VC,” he added.
However, there was no report of any clash.
