NDP threatens to leave BNP alliance
A faction of National Democratic Party (NDP) today issued a 72-hour ultimatum to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to ensure democratic practices within the 20-party alliance.
Otherwise, the party, a component of the BNP-led alliance, will leave the combine, Alamgir Majumdar, the self-declared chairman of the faction, said at a press conference at a hotel in Dhaka at noon.
Majumder also asked BNP to clarify its stance regarding the relationship between India and Bangladesh. He however did not elaborate his comment.
He wants the opposition alliance to announce such anti-government programme which will not cause any public sufferings.
Majumdar, at today’s press conference, sacked Golam Mortoza from the party’s chairman post and announced himself as the party’s new chairman.
His announcement came a day after Mortoza sacked Majumdar from the party’s secretary general post for violating the party constitution and for his involvement in the anti-party activities.
Amid this situation, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has convened an emergency meeting of all secretary generals of the alliance at BNP Nayapaltan office at 4:00pm.
