An elderly woman and her middle-aged son were found murdered at their residence in Babuganj upazila yesterday.
The deceased are Monika Mridha, 65 and her son Sushil Mridha, 44, of Uttar Dehegati Christian Para in the upazila.
Shah Alam, in-charge of Babuganj police station quoting locals said the duo went to bed on Sunday night after watching a TV bulletin at 9:00pm.
Yesterday morning, a NGO worker went to collect loan installment from there and found the house locked from outside.
As a strong odour was coming out from their room and they were not responding to mobile call, he told it to their neighbours.
Locals informed the police who recovered the bodies after breaking open the door at 10:30am and sent them to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Sushil's body bore marks of stab injuries while bruises were found on the face of Monika.
Samiron Mridha, a mentally challenged son of Monika, might have been involved in the killings as he went into hiding after the incident, said in-charge of the PS.
However, identity of the real killer and the reason behind the murders would be known after investigation, he said.
Police superintendent AKM Ehsan Ullah visited the spot.
