Mushy eyes clinical show
Bangladesh will want to take a step closer to the Super 10s when they meet Nepal at the Zohur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong today. Having overcome the Afghanistan threat, the Tigers will now need to see off a high-flying Nepal who thumped Hong Kong by 80 runs in their first game.
That Bangladesh are taking this game very seriously was obvious from Mushfiqur Rahim's statements at the pre-match press conference yesterday. The captain believed that there was no room for complacency and that the Tigers would be fielding their best eleven.
He even dismissed the possibility of resting injury-prone Mashrafe Bin Mortaza for the game.
“The way his condition is right now, if he remains that way, we will make him play. We don't have a replacement for him. We are all completely focused on tomorrow's game and nothing else,” said Mushfiqur.
With the wicket at ZACS having a bit more grass on it than usual, Mushfiqur stated the possibility of fielding an extra seamer in the match. That would mean that the hosts may bring in Rubel Hossain instead of an all-rounder -- Mahmudullah Riyad or Forhad Reza. The hosts would not want to change any other aspect of the team.
“Spinners may not get the turn they normally get in Chittagong, but we have quality spinners and they are smart; they will do well,” said Mushfiqur. Sabbir Rahman, following his good effort on the field in the tournament opener on Sunday, is also likely to retain his position
Nepal, following their thumping win against Hong Kong, is expected to field a similar side. Like the hosts they have two left-arm spinners -- Shakti Gauchan and Basant Regmi -- both of whom picked three wickets each in the previous game. They will also be depending a lot on their captain Paras Khadka, who bats at number four and has consistently been their mainstay.
