Bagha Ayr...

Onlookers gather around a Bagha Ayr (a kind of catfish) weighing about 88kgs brought to Bat Tala kitchen market in Tangail town yesterday. A fisherman netted it in the Padma and sold it to fish trader Momin Monday night in Aricha. Since there was no single buyer for the fish with an asking price of Tk 72,000, Momin chopped it up and sold it to 40 people for Tk 80,000. Photo: Mirza Shakil

New Bridge!

Work on building a new 396-metre dual-carriageway bridge next to the narrow Kanchpur Bridge on the Shitalakkhya is ongoing with funds from Japan International Cooperation Agency. The Kanchpur Bridge is now considered a traffic bottleneck on Dhaka-Sylhet and Dhaka-Chittagong highways. The new bridge is expected to be complete in mid-2018. The photo was taken recently.
