Hawaye Indrojal

Reputed dance school Shadhona staged their new production “Hawaye Indrojal” at the Ahsan Manzil premises on Saturday (February 6), as part of the ongoing Muslin Festival. The story is based on the extraordinary history of muslin weaving in East Bengal (now Bangladesh), related by the artisans themselves. The specially commissioned production (by festival organizers Drik) showcased the glory of muslin and the exploitation of the craftspeople by the colonising British, leading to the ultimate destruction of the industry. Shabbir Ahmed Khan Biju directed the production, based on Saymon Zakaria's script. Shadhona's artistic director Lubna Marium, noted dance exponent, was in charge of artistic direction, costume and set design, while Nirjher Chowdhury and Rokon Emon did the music.
