Moudud, Rafiqul, Mahbub freed
Senior BNP leaders Moudud Ahmed, Rafiqul Islam Mia and Khandaker Mahbub Hossain were freed on bail from Kashimpur jail in Gazipur yesterday.
Rafiqul and Mahbub left jail around 11:20am while Moudud around 12:30pm, Jahangir Alam, superintendent of the jail, told The Daily Star.
The trio -- standing committee members Moudud Ahmed and Rafiqul Islam Mia, and BNP chairperson's adviser Khandaker Mahbub Hossain -- had recently obtained bail orders from the High Court in several cases.
The bail documents were received by the jail authorities around 9:30am yesterday, said Jahangir.
On November 8 last year, Moudud and Rafiqul were detained from outside Hotel Sonargaon after they were coming out of a programme there.
Mahbub was picked up by detectives in front of the Jatiya Press Club on January 7.
Police filed six cases against Moudud, five against Mia and two against Mahbub.
Moudud and Mia were shown arrested in two cases filed for “attempted murder” of cops and creating violence in the capital during May 5 Hefajat rally.
At least 28 central BNP leaders including its standing committee members were arrested by the law enforcers in the last three months. Of them, 10 have so far been freed.
