MK Anwar charged for ‘instigating religious anarchy’
A Dhaka court today indicted BNP standing committee member MK Anwar in a case filed over instigating religious anarchy and ordered its trial to begin from November 30.
The BNP leader appeared pleaded not guilty and sought justice in the case filed against him under the ICT Act after the charges were read out to him at court.
Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Zahirul Haque passed the indictment order after hearing today and set November 30 to commence the trial in this case.
Case statement read, MK Anwar blamed Swechchhasebak League leader Debashish Biswas for burning Quran during the Hefazat-e-Islam rally in Dhaka on May 5 last year.
On May 7 that year, Paltan Police Station Sub-Inspector Abdur Rashid filed a general diary in this regard accusing Anwar of hurting religious sentiments, which later became a case.
Subsequently, a charge sheet was pressed against the BNP leader over this case on June 26.
MK Anwar is currently on bail in this case.
On May 7 this year, a Dhaka court framed charges against MK Anwar in a case filed by Debashish for making such comments against him.
