Minor girl killed in Hazaribagh slum fire
A two-year-old child died and her minor brother burned during a fire in the Balurhat slum in Dhaka’s Hazaribagh area this afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Maria, 2, reports our correspondent quoting Mainul Islam, officer-in-charge of Hazaribagh Police Station.
The OC also said Maria’s six-year-old brother sustained burn injuries in the fire.
“Their mother is a housemaid. She was not at home when the fire began. The two siblings were sleeping when the fire sparked from a burning stove in their house,” the OC added.
The fire sparked from a stove around 2:52pm, Mohammad Liakat Ali, on-duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defense headquarters told The Daily Star Online.
Five fire fighting units doused flames after nearly an hour of efforts, he added. “24 houses were gutted during the fire.”
