Manikganj cylinder blast toll rises to 6
Five people, who received burn injuries in a cylinder explosion at a CNG filling station in Manikganj, died at two separate hospitals in Dhaka today, raising the death toll to six.
With over 85 percent burn injuries, four of them succumbed at Dhaka Medical College Hospital while another at Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar, sources at the hospitals said.
Three of the deceased succumbed around 8:30am, said Inspector Mozammel Hossain, camp in-charge of DMCH police outpost.
The two others breathed their last at the DMCH and Enam medical college hospital in the afternoon, our Manikganj correspondent reports quoting families.
The dead were identified as filling station worker Delwar Hossain, 40, BRTC bus driver Nurul Islam Lebu, 35, CNG-auto-rickshaw driver Shamim Hossain, 35, filling station manager Masum, 48, and Arshad Ali, 43.
A cylinder of the Rumi CNG Filling Station exploded on Dhaka-Aricha high way in Shibalaya upazila around 4:00pm, leaving an employee dead on the spot and at least six other injured.
The filling station caught fire by the impact of the explosion, reports our Manikganj correspondent.
Two firefighting units from adjoining areas rushed to the spot and doused the blaze after their half-an-hour efforts.
Labu and Shamim entered the station, owned by Abdur Rahim, for refueling their vehicles when the explosion took place.
