Man killed in 'gunfight’ with DB in capital
A suspected criminal was killed during a reported gunfight with Detectives Branch (DB) of police near Hatirjheel canal at Rampura in the capital early Friday.
The deceased was identified as Gias Uddin alias Apan, 30, sources at Dhaka Medical College Hospital said.
Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) told The Daily Star that law the detectives went to the area after they obtained a piece of information that “a group of muggers were planning to commit a crime there.”
Sensing presence of law enforcers, the criminals opened fire at them, triggering the shootout as the DB men fired in retaliation around 3:30am, the police official said.
The duty doctor pronounced Apan, who had received bullet injuries, dead around 4:30am, Masudur Rahman said.
