Man held with Rs 80 lakh in capital
Airport Police today arrested one person and seized Indian currencies Rs 80 lakh from his possession in airport area in the capital.
On suspicion, police intercepted Md Alauddin, 30, who was carrying a travel bag around 1:00pm at a check post near airport and recovered the foreign currencies, said Md Shah Alam, officer-in-charge of airport police station.
Directed by a local smuggler, Alauddin came to Dhaka from Shibganj of Chapainawabganj and received the currency from a woman, said the OC, quoting the arrestee.
“We are interrogating the arrestee for further clues,” he said suspecting the currencies are fake.
On Saturday, customs officials also detained another youth with Rs 50 lakh after his arrival at Hajrat Shahjalal International Airport from Pakistan.
