Man found dead at DU
A 30-year-old man was found dead under the lift shaft at a residential hall of the Dhaka University in the capital this evening.
The body of Sohel Rana was recovered from the bottom of the shaft of the six-storey International Hall around 6:00pm, police said.
Rana, a resident of Lalbagh in the old part of the city, used to visit his uncle, Babul Munshi, a cleaner of the hall, Sirajul Islam, officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station, told The Daily Star.
The official said did not ascertain the reason of the death but said they have opened an investigation to dig out facts.
Doctors pronounced him dead as he was rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Meanwhile, Prof Lutfur Rahman, provost of the hall, said hearing screams coming from shaft around 6:00pm, the authorities switched off the lift.
They found the body when the open the door of the lift, he added.
DU acting proctor Amzad Ali said they would file a case with the police in this connection.
The university authorities will also form an investigation committee to probe this incident, he added.
