Mamata invited to visit Bangladesh
In a major policy decision, the government has invited West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to visit Bangladesh from February 19-22.
Highly-placed sources at the foreign ministry in Dhaka and in West Bengal government told The Daily Star that the invitation, routed through the diplomatic channel, reached Mamata on Saturday evening.
They said Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali in an official letter formally invited Mamata, who obstructed the signing of Teesta River Water Sharing Agreement in September 6, 2011 and had vehemently opposed the Land Boundary Agreement (LBA).
This is the second time that the Bangladesh government has sent formal invitation to Mamata to visit the country since former Foreign Minister Dipu Moni officially invited her to visit Bangladesh in 2011.
