Mamata due Thursday
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee arrives in Dhaka on Thursday on a three-day visit which is expected to deepen the bond between the two countries, said an official at the foreign ministry.
Diplomatic sources said New Delhi is sending her considering the importance of Bangladesh and to take the current excellent bilateral relations to a new height.
Earlier in September 2011, Mamata had cancelled her visit to Dhaka accompanying the then prime minister Manmohan Singh, as she had claimed that Teesta water-sharing would not protect the interest of West Bengal.
The Teesta pact could not be inked at that time. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is giving much priority to Dhaka now.
Modi, during his maiden meeting with his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina at New York Palace hotel, said he is very much serious about resolving the pending issues like the Teesta water-sharing treaty and Land Boundary Agreement (LBA) with Bangladesh.
