Malaysia work permit renewal online from March
Foreign workers seeking renewal of their work permits in Malaysia will have to undergo due procedures over the internet from March this year.
The manual service at immigration counters will end from February 28, said Mustafa Ibrahim, director general of Malaysian immigration, today. “Permit renewal procedures will be carried out online from March.”
“The temporary re-opening of the counter services for work permit renewal is to allow more time for employers to familiarise themselves with the online system,” he said.
“Whether or not we will continue the service at immigration counters will be decided by February-end,” the official said at a programme in Putrajaya of Malaysia.
Mustafa said there would be no change to the service fee, 38 Malaysian Ringgit, charged by MyEG for the renewal procedure.
Malaysian government introduced the online services for renewal of work permit from the first day of this year. Around four lakh Bangladeshi migrants are currently employed there.
However, the concept drew flak among employers who said it was too sudden a move.
