Main accused Sajid held
In a major breakthrough, the main accused in Burdwan blast, Sajid, a Bangladeshi national and chief commander of terror group Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), was arrested in West Bengal this afternoon.
Sajid is the first Bangladeshi arrested in connection with the October 2 blast which killed two suspected JMB members. Earlier, at least ten people from West Bengal and Assam were arrested in the case, reports our New Delhi correspondent Pallab Bhattacharya.
Sajid was picked up by West Bengal Police around 2:30pm, official sources said but declined to immediately divulge the exact place and circumstances leading to his arrest.
With the arrest of Sajid, on whose head the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had announced a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh, the exact plan of the terror group is likely to come to fore.
Sajid had been extensively questioned by the police and sleuths of Indian security agencies about the functioning of JMB and its plans in Bangladesh and India, the sources also said.
Sajid's arrest came a day after Zia-ul-Haque, a close associate of Sajid, was arrested by India's National Investigation Agency in Kolkata on Friday.
Haque, a resident of West Bengal, is considered to be a very important catch for Indian security agencies as it was at his house in Burdwan that Sajid held meetings on spreading jihadi ideology and carrying out terror attacks, said an NIA officer.
