Lt Col Tareque remanded for 6th time
Former Rab officer Lt Col Tareque Sayeed Mohammad has been remanded for a sixth time since his arrest last month in connection with the abduction and murder of seven people in Narayanganj.
Senior Judicial Magistrate KM Mohiuddin in Narayanganj today placed Tareque on a four-day remand in a case filed for killing senior lawyer Chandan Sarkar, who is among the seven victims.
Police in the afternoon produced the former commanding officer of Rapid Action Battalion-11 before the magistrate with a 5-day remand prayer on completion of his fifth phase’s remand, reports our Narayanganj correspondent.
Earlier, he was remanded for five times on different terms in the seven murder cases.
On June 9, he was placed on a five-day remand in the case.
Tareque along with two other Rab-11 officers -- Maj Arif Hossain and Lt Commander MM Rana -- was sent on retirement on May 6 for their alleged involvement with abduction and murders.
On April 27, Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam and his three aides -- Tajul, Liton, and Swapan -- and Nazrul's driver Jahangir and senior lawyer Chandan Sarker and his driver Ibrahim were kidnapped in separate incidents.
Six bodies were found floating in the Shitalakkhya river three days later and another the next day.
