Locals confine 14 Rab men 'suspecting robbers'
Locals in Shibaloy upazila of Manikganj today caught 14 members of Rapid Action Battalion suspecting them as robbers and handed them over to police.
Denying the locals’ claim, Faizul Islam Mandal, company commander of Rab-4, told our Manikganj correspondent that the team "went to the village mistakenly".
"The allegation brought against them is totally false," he added.
Shibaloy police handed them over to Rab-4 around 8:30am, said Rakibuzzaman, officer-in-charge of Shibaloy Police Station.
According to police, locals, who keep vigil in Saljana area by turns every night to prevent robbery, saw a white microbus parked on a village road around 2:30am.
Asked about their identities, five plainclothes men introduced themselves as Rab members.
When they said they would go to Faridpur through the village, the locals could not believe the statement.
Nine more people reached the spot around 5:00am and told the villagers that they went to the village to arrest an accused in a criminal case, police said.
Following the contradictory statements, locals called Shibaloy police and handed over all of them to the law enforcers suspecting them as robbers.
The 14 Rab men are: Maj MH Selimuzzaman, Lt Col Sarfaraj, Deputy Assistant Director of Rab-4 Anamul, sergeant Abdul Alim, sub-inspector Hanif, assistant sub-inspector Yusuf, corporals Kabirul and Rafique, Lance corporals Waz Uddin and Alamgir, constable Sahabur and solders Sharif, Azibul and Didar.
