Venue: Red Shift Coffee Lounge, Radius Centre, 5th Floor, Bay's Galleria, 57 Gulshan Avenue, Gulshan, Dhaka
This is an extremely rare opportunity for us in Dhaka to watch a world-class mime performance by a leading French performer who has a stellar international reputation. Laurent Decol was privileged to be a student of the legendary Marcel Marceau and graduated from both the Marcel Marceau Paris International School of Mimodrama and the Institute for Researching the Actor in Holstebro (Denmark). He was then Professor at the Marcel Marceau Paris International School of Mimodrama. He is also an actor and director of a theatre company. In the language of gesture and mime the mono-performance "Words of Silence" is a reflection on twelve of the existential human issues such as love, life and creativity. Since no speech is involved, communication is universal. "He is a worthy successor to Charlie Chaplin, Marcel Marceau or Buster Keaton, an incredibly talented artist who makes us smile and moves us to laughter and tears," wrote The New York Times describing the artist. For the children's show ticket is priced at Tk. 500 available at Red Shift/Radius or online and Tk. 550 at www.imdhaka.com .For regular show, tickets will cost Tk. 900 available at Red Shift/Radius or online for Tk. 990 at www.imdhaka.com (Limited seating so please book early)
Group of Four Artists Painting Exhibition, Aquatic
Date: Fri, Nov 27, 2015
Time: Daylong
Venue: Alliance Francase, La Galerie
Traditionally, the people of Bangladesh used to grow up in an atmosphere where water was a ubiquitous part. Nowadays we see skyscrapers everywhere, but the long-standing feelings of water still remain. At times it stimulates every person and their particularly personal emotions.
Joloj' or 'Aquatic' is an endeavour by Bishan Bhakta, Golam Moshiur Rahman Choudhury, Md. Al-Akhir Sarkar and Sadek Ahmed consisted of these very feelings which makes one recall that he or she was one from the riverbanks with very exclusive dreams and aspirations. The malleability in the point of view that makes a Bangladeshi Bangladeshi has its roots in the earth and clay they grow up with that have water in their essence to begin with. Finally, the artists are inspired by the mystique of the Mughal Muslim tradition, the Kali temple etc.
