LOPA RAHMAN Signature Bride
Every bride yearns for a fabulous dress, faultless make-up and ethereal jewellery. The entire look for the wedding day is imagined over a period of years, sometimes a lifetime. It's magical and enchanting and must be pulled off in utter precision.
Therefore, a bride must leave the details to expert, if she wants to bring reality to her fascinations. This is where, makeup expert, Lopa Rahman excels.
Having had almost 25 years of experience in the make-up industry, Lopa Rahman is a tasteful make-up artist who loves to work on brides. "To me, a signature bride is youthful, glowing, all-natural and yet exclusive. I don't like the mannequin look at all; my brides look lustrous but in a very natural tone."
We wanted to know more from the expert, so we asked her about the base makeup. "I always use high-end make-up, like Chanel, Bobbi Brown and Mac, from my personal collection. My belief is that the foundation is very important, the more naturally it sets, the younger the brides will look."
We asked her about the new technique that seemed to have taken Dhaka by storm: the airbrush technique of putting on make-up. "Well, I am not at all comfortable with it especially because I believe that brides do not need it at all. In our country, women usually get married in their 20s or 30s and during these times the face already has a youthful glow. To me, the airbrush technique is more suited for mature skin."
When we asked her about the ideal eye shadow palette and eyeliner style for the Lopa Rahman Signature bride, she gladly stated, "I use a lot of golden and different shades of browns to highlight the eyes and make it the most important feature of the bride. I also use a lot of greens. As for eyeliners, I put it on, based on the facial features and eye structure of the bride. Even though winged eyeliners may be currently trending and one of my favourites, it does not however suit everyone."
Naturally, the next question was about lips and the cheeks. "I use red on voluptuous lips as they complement each other. In case of thinner lips, I use more of a nude colour to make it look standard and sufficient. As for rouge, olive skinned brides get a yellow-orange shade of blush; whereas the slightly fair skinned toned brides get the peach or pinkish blush."
We know that a complete look for the signature bride includes the hairdo, jewellery placing, the sari draping, etc. Discussing about the hairdo Lopa Rahman said "I prefer the middle parting in most cases; it looks good with 'tikli' and 'shita pati'. However if the bride has a smaller forehead we go for a slight side-parting instead."
Makeup artists have an inclination towards contouring, to which Lopa delightfully added. "Contouring is a must. Instead of using exclusive contouring kits I use a dark coloured foundation in a combination with light-coloured foundation and blend it smoothly against the skin. The end results are a more naturally chiselled look for the bride."
Last but not the least, we could not leave behind the make-up for the eyebrows, one of the best features of the woman. Lopa Rahman, answered, "I don't work too much on the eye-brows, only what is necessary. So, that they do not undermine the dazzling effect of the eyes; which is by far the most important feature to me."
