Tea Expo-2017
Waking up to a piping hot cup of tea every winter morning is what all Bangladeshis cherish. Holding that warm mug with the palms or our hands or pressed against the cheeks, makes a wonderful start to the day.
Most people also have multiple cups of this beverage in the course of the day, and in and around offices, universities or colleges countless make-shift stalls (tong as we know them) are set up to serve tea. The beverage has been integrated into our lives and the culture surrounding tea can now very well be termed ours!
The bond between tea and Bengal began in the British era (around) 1840, but the first commercial tea garden was established in 1857at Malinichara of Sylhet.
After more than one and a half century Bangladesh now has 162 tea gardens, scattered mostly across Moulavibazar, Habiganj, Chittagong, Sylhet, Panchagarh and Rangamati.
For all tea enthusiasts, whether one is a hearty consumer or involved in the tea trade, or just someone who has a knack for history, Bangladesh Tea Board and Ministry of Commerce are arranging the country's first ever tea expo.
The Tea Expo-2017 will be held from 12-14 January, at the International Convention City Bashundhara with 30 pavilions and 20 stalls. The expo has already generated much hype on social media as the catchy theme-song for event composed by Partha Barua was released in the Internet. The television commercial has also contributed in creating much interest among the masses.
So if you have a love for tea or want to venture into its commercial aspect this Expo is not to be missed.
The Tea Expo – 2017 is being arranged in association with Bangladesh Cha Shangshad, City Group, Duncan Brothers Bangladesh, Finley Cha, HRC, Ispahani and Ceylon Cha.
The event partners include The Daily Star, GTV, Bangla Tribune and Radio Foorti. The expo will run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
